'They've been extremely happy here because they've been allowed to develop at their own pace. And they've been surrounded by a lot of love and nurturing.'

Teacher Art Workshop

Central to Lewes New School's teaching and learning philosophy is the question of authenticity - of doing things for real. For both teachers and children this is largely made possible by working alongside ‘experts' who can in turn teach us more about what's involved in their different fields. The teachers' day with practising artists, Marco Crivello and Stephanie Davies-Arai was one such opportunity. Click here to see photos and find out more.

Winter Fair 2009

Despite the pouring rain, we had a fantastic WInter Fair. Over £1100 was raised which will go towards improvements in the playground. Well done to all the hard work by many many parents and children from the school community.

Sport

We played NETBALL against another local primary school on Wednesday 2nd December.
We played two games with two different teams. Scores were 6 - 4 and 1 - 0
Congratulations to all the players and Faustina, our coach.

Staff Art Day

A fantastic display has just gone up in the hall telling the story of the staff's artistic day on the 6th November. With the expert facilitation of Marco (Martha) and Stephanie (Aileen), the staff experienced ways of working that enabled them to tap into an expressive freedom more characteristic of our youngest children. Marco and Stephanie (who have very generously donated their time so far) are planning a parent workshop of a similar nature in the New Year.

Quiz Night

Our third School Wine & Wisdom event is being held on Thursday 26th November from 8pm until 11pm in the school hall. Who can beat the Galaticos this time around? Can the two teams formed by the school's teaching staff dominate? Tickets available from the school office at £5 a head of £25 for a table of 6.

Bursary Awards Available

From September 2009 our bursary scheme will offer 5 assisted places for eligible families joining with children in years 3-6. Please click here to find out more.

Also, to appreciate the loyalty of families already committed to the school, for whom in the present economic climate things can be really tough, we will also be launching a helping hand fund to help eligible families in times of financial difficulty. Please click here to find out more.

Our special thanks go to the Guerrand Hermes Foundation, whose extremely generous support has greatly strengthened this exciting new scheme.

Nursery Expansion

In the Nursery there will be ten additional places that will be allocated on a first come basis. Nursery vouchers are accepted.

Modern Technology

Following an assessment process over the past few months, a detailed specification, complete with costings, was drawn up to cover the IT requirements of the school. This was delivered last Friday and, through the exemplary offices of Hermione Elliott [Chair of Trustees] the full £11,000 has been found in a single gift - from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This will add significantly to the resources available to the children and staff at the school and we are very grateful.
