We have jumped into the whirlpool of fractions this week to grab hold of the BIG ideas. We love that they are infinite numbers between whole numbers and that they help to divide things up (eg if you feel like sharing your box of chocs with a crowd of relatives, you’ll know what to do). Everyone has learned to recognise, write and read fractions as part of an object or group; understand what both numbers in a fraction mean (and are called); plus add and subtract them. The individual fraction walls we made helped us understand equivalents and whether it’s best to have 2/10 of that pizza at The Hearth or 1/3. And that was just maths! We have been slam dunking, making beautiful art and tapping our way into the wonderful life skill of touch-typing (every Friday afternoon).
