We have been talking about our favourite authors and the kinds of books we enjoy the most. What was your favourite author as a child?

Inspired to find out more about the books on offer, last week we went to Waterstones to meet Sarah, the buyer for the children’s section. She was very interesting and said that her favourite children’s books are often found outside of the popular series we know and love. Favouring one-off stories, for their original storylines and plots, she introduced us to a range of books that she thought we may not have come across before. After sharing a variety of both new and old titles, we sat together to listen to the first two chapter of ‘Wonder’ by R. J. Palacio.

‘Wonder’ is Sarah’s absolute favourite book at the moment. The book urges the reader to look beyond appearances and not to judge a book by its cover, both literally and metaphorically. Some of us whizzed through the picture book version, keen to learn more about the story before returning to school. Look out for it, it’s an interesting read!

We will be giving out reading lists with Sarah’s recommendations today for you all to have a look through.
