This week in Later Years we have been asking ourselves, ‘What makes a hero/heroine?’ and thinking about the qualities that give a hero/heroine a lasting legacy in the world. We have been researching biographies of both personal and ‘established’ heroes and heroines from David Attenborough, Isaac Newton, Anne Frank and Helen Keller to Nelson Mandela and Marie Curie, to name but a few. We have been learning how to use Microsoft Publisher to distil and record our findings as well as learning to use the ‘grid method’ to draw portraits of our influential figures.
Perhaps you could talk about your heroes/heroines with your children? What did they do? Why are they your heroes/heroines?
The Y6s launched their small businesses in aid of PATINA on Monday, selling deliciously edible treats. Their cafe will be open every Monday at the end of school this term. They will be selling chocolate brownies, cupcakes, muffins, pancakes and rocky road and no item is more than £1. In our assembly this week, they asked the school which treats they had enjoyed so far, if they thought the prices were reasonable and what else they might like to see as choices in the café – market research being an important part of running a business! Please bring any spare change you may have to spend with us each Monday!
