Respect

Children at Lewes New School learn to collaborate, to take responsibility, to work as part of a group. They learn that, although they will meet challenges and difficulties, they can trust that the school will respond in a way that empowers them individually and collectively.

The children are encouraged to develop their own beliefs and values as well as to respect those of others. The oldest children are trained as peer mediators. We know that with our support children have the capacity to make the best decisions about how to resolve difficulties.

We believe that the child’s emotional and spiritual development to be as significant as their physical, intellectual and creative development.

As a community of learners, we are constantly reviewing our methods and policies towards supporting the children as they grow into young adults.

This is made possible through the development of Emotional Intelligence. The teaching of such skills such as peaceful conflict resolution and problem solving help children to develop in to successful and happy individuals .

We have clear policies on bullying, effective discipline, and rewards & praise, in keeping with the ethos of our school.
