We are a school that offers education led by curiosity and imagination.
We are intent on harnessing and developing the tools we all need to pursue our learning – imagination, confidence, adaptability, application, tenacity and openness, personal responsibility and a willingness to listen to ourselves and to each other.
We work together to celebrate and promote a passion for learning, and the possibilities of collaboration.
Our approach to schooling is responsive and rigorous, dynamic, tender, respectful, challenging and innovative.
The teaching staff design and deliver the curriculum but respond and listen to the children and to the parent body. Partnership with parents promotes ongoing communication and the best possible outcomes for our children. Our days are full of debate and discussion but this is not a permissive environment.
Our teachers are accessible and curious. Critically, we share what we don’t know as much as what we do. Through that we we stay alive and awake, open and moving. We love to know when things are going well and take action when things are not working.
We work hard to maximize each other’s potential. Parents are actively involved in many satellite teams that support the success of the school.
Lewes New School reflects and responds to the world in which we live. We are immersed in the local community – regularly participating in local sport and community events.
Children move on to secondary school with a clear sense of the person they are and the person they can choose to become.
There are many people involved in the successful running of the school, from the pupils to the staff, the parents and the governors, the trustees and our patrons, Dr Penelope J Leach and Simon Xavier Guerrand-Hermès.
Our school history goes back to 2000 when the school first opened.
We are proud to be affiliated to Human Scale Education and the Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace.
